The Commonwealth To the Sherriff or any Constable for the County of wythe(,) you are hereby Commanded forth with to take a negro fellow cald Jacob and Deliver him to David Walker who hath proved him agreable to our Satisfaction to be his property and this shall be your warrant for the same(.) given under our hands and seals this 5th day Januy 1797

It is unclear why William Gleaves had this document in his papers. Sometime in the 1790s William was named a Justice of the Peace for Wythe County and his involvement may have been related to that office.

The final outcome of this warrant is not known.
