Nashville July 7th 1852

Dear Uncle
I have met with the greatest misfortune of all others. I have lost my Dear Companion. She departed this life on the 23rd of last month. She died happy she made a profession of religion a short time previous to her death. That is very consoling to my feelings. It is a hard thing for me to become reconsiled but Experience has taught me to know that I will have to become reconsiled to the will of our Creater hoo knows what is best___ Nancy Crockett has writen to Brother John & Sister Elizabeth Crockett. She I have no doubt have given them a full account of all that has taken place in regard to her death. I am left a lone my 2 little children is at there grandfarthers. They will be well taken care of I have no doubt. It has ben remarkably sickly in my neighborhood this season. The Colerra and Flu prevailed to a considerable Extent. Dewering (during) the last 6 or 8 weeks there has ben upwards of 40 deaths. My family has Escaped so fair (far) tho it has ben all round me. Non of the relation has taken it

and I hope will not as the health of the neighborhood is getting better. Our crops loocks fine at this time ___ I have ben Expecting a letter from you but it has not come. I received yours on the 12th of May last containing the money inclosed to me and answered it on the 24th of May directing you to inclose the remainder and as it has had time to have got here I thought it best to inform you of that fact. At least your letter containing the remainder may have ben missplaced or mis carried it. Anytime it should come to hand I will write to you and inform you of the fact. The relation are all well at the presant time. I am living a lonesome life no one but my self and negras. Amerricus having went to Arkansas last spring and have not returned tho I have ben looking for him for the last 3 weeks. Give my love to all of the relation and Except for your self and Aunt a double share ___ you will please write to me at the receipt of this as I am anxious to hear from you all. Give my love to Brother John & sister Elizabeth Crockett. Tell them to write to me.

Benjamin F. Gleaves is the son of Thomas Harvey Gleaves, older brother of James Turk Gleaves.

B. F.'s wife was Jane Crockett. Jane Crockett Gleaves and Malvina Crockett Gleaves (James Turk Gleaves' wife) were first cousins; Jane's father Joseph and Malvina's father John were brothers,

Jane's mother Mary Crockett and her father Joseph Crockett were first cousins. Joseph was the son of John Crockett who was the son of John Samuel Crockett and Esther Thompson. Mary was the daughter of Andrew Crockett who was also the son of John Samuel Crockett and Esther Thompson.

Americus was Benjamin Gleaves' brother.
