On or before the 1st day of September next I bind myself my heirs & to pay unto Marshal Delph the sum of One hundred & fifty Dollars, a part of which is to be discharged in a good horse at any time between This time & the 1st of Sept next if it suits the said Gleaves to pay it sooner than the above date, as Witness my hand & seal this 2nd day of May 1848

Transcriber Notes

In 1845 Marshal Delph married Sarah J. A. (known as Julia Ann) Danner, the daughter of George Danner. George had died in 1839 and James T. Gleaves was appointed as administrator of the estate. Also at that time Julia Ann chose John Spanker to be her guardian as she was above the age of 14.

See letter 720, dated September, 1848 where James Gleaves pays a fee to the courts to record a deed from Delp. This may be the payment for that land.

George Wythe Gleaves is the witness on this note.
