Dear Father
I defered writing longer than I would knowing thus I would have an opportunity of sending it by Mr Guggenheimer & that he would be able to give you all the news & satisfaction desirable I received the money & clothing send by him the pants were considerable too large around the waist though otherwise they did finely- Mr St Clair & wife have been in the City a good while-both of whom were very kind & tendered all the kindness & hospitality imaginable . Miss Avelina Haller is new in the City under medical treatment. I suppose she anticipates staying probably all winter I have been too see her several times-quite removed & greatly more reduced than I expected to find-though she will no doubt recover-She came with William Gibboney-
Joseph Kent has been here several days & one of the kindest men I ever found
I send by Mr Guggenheimer a pair of-French Cork soles to wear in the shoes-they are highly spoken of by physicians & consider quite conducive to health-I suppose they will suit as I intended to get them to fit as -well as I could judge
As regards those combs I have searched the City over & find only-one manfacturer who would attempt to change them-I send them at a great sacrifice though the least I could do
I received a letter from Shannon at Dr Crockett saying that he & Uncle Allen wanted two Lancets which I must procure & send them by Guggenheimer or Kent. I learned from the same that Wythe had gone to Richmond with ?. I hope he may profit by the trip as no doubt he will
I wish you in writing to me in the future to direct your letters to the "University of Pennsylvania" as I'll be able to get them immediately they frequently are in the post office for days
Our lectures will commence next Monday & that day I'll well have been gone exactly a year. I have succeeded at last in getting a good boarding house-& as-cheap-in fact cheaper-than common
Yours respectfully

PS
A very handsome & respectable lady of the City has requested me to write an obituary - her brother horribly died a few weeks ago, which task I excepted after making the usual apologies
Oh yea fall those can't discern the signs of the Times
