Dear Samuel
I write without having much to write that is interesting-we are all well, and a doing as well as we can after having had eleven cases of scarlet fever in our family-and saving all-
Jane Gregory is to be buried this day-Joseph William Kent was buried yesterday-Grace Painter &  Mrs Ewing both quite ill with the fever though a mending - The news of the country is not much that you would care about   Your Aunt Lizza has a daughter D. C. Birkman wife a son (Brown)
I was in town a few days ago & in a conversation with Doctor Crockett your name was mentioned by me and he instantly asked how you was & when I had heard from you, & in a very friendly way said that I must write to you for him & say to you to keep the disecting knife in your hand & never to let it out while you are there –(I suppose meaning to use it as much as possible)
I will go to the Superior Court tomorrow & know of Guggen, precisely the time he will start & get him to take some money to you
I will mention in the bottom of this letter where he will stop at & if I can, the amount of money that I send by him as well as other things
Your Mother wants you to send those combs by Mr Guggenheimer if you cannot get them
