     Dear Sir

It is with pleasure that I seat myself to answer your short but well written letter.  I am sorry you had so much trouble in getting to your Elizcine but these are things that we must all encounter before we obtain the goal of our desire.  To let not these things trouble but find on the armours of Industry & Perserverance, and let your eye be looking towards the Hill of Science with the resolution that you will not rest until you have drank deep in its Crystal Fountains.
Wythe nothing of importance has transpired since you left us except we had a real day killing a dog or two after you left.  One morning at the barn we found a sheep lying dead.  We mistrusted some of our dogs & in the first place I shot old Roolen (Dick's dog) & in an hour or twoTyler came to the

house bloody & then I shot him and through them in the Creek.  So Tyleris no more.  We have had bad luck with our sheep & lambs for some time.
Grandmother is a good deal better.  Mother & I was over last week & brought little Mary with us (she is here now)  Old William Creger by reports, was married yesterday to Miss Sophia Kinder the girl that lived at John Spraker I understand his infacy is next Saturday & I am going if I can.  Becca is very sick yet.  I am plowing every day like the devil
Wythe I want you to write to me and let me know everything about the College.  Give my respects to all the students & tell them to write to me.
                                           Yours respectfully
