From G W Ramsey to Samuel Gleaves

Transcriber Notes

George W. Ramsey was the son of Elizabeth Gleaves and his father is believed to be William Ramsey (about 1768-before 1843).  The family moved to Tennessee in about 1807

Samuel Crockett Gleaves was the son of Elizabeth’s brother James Turk Gleaves.  He was attending Emory and Henry College at the time.  He would later become a doctor and many of his letters are listed here later.

George and Samuel are first cousins.

“Grandmother” mentioned in poor health was Elizabeth Turk Gleaves who died less than two months after this letter was written.

Russell County, Virginia was formed in 1786 from a part of Washington County with Lebanon as the county seat.
