Anna’s teeth

“A quarter apiece, and a dollar for three?  Why what could that be little girl?” said a gentleman to Anna.  “Things are sold cheaper, not dearer by the quantity!”

“But you see this is teeth.”  Anna replied.  “Mamma pays a quarter apiece for every one I have Papa to pull out without her knowing it, but when I had three pulled out in one day she gave me a dollar.”

Mamma’s Riddle. 1898

Something that the milk-maid wore,
And something on her butter;
Something that Robinson Crusoe saw
And caused his heart to flutter;
Something that is printer’s lore
With every word they utter.
