Man was created!
Enoch translated!
The people were fated,
As Noah had stated,
In the Ark to embark or to die!

When the deluge abated,
The animals mated,
Came out of the Ark,
With the patri-arch,
An arc was put in the sky!

A thousand years later,
A babelling greater,
Had never been heard!
And vain hopes were shattered!
And people were scattered!
But none were destroyed!

And then when to B.C. 2000 they came,
When backwards or forwards the years were the same;
Then Abram was born, who was Abraham later,
Than whom there were none in the Testament greater!
And there are two events, important related,
Since Noah was buried, who animals mated!

And when Abram was called, and Abram obeyed,
The promise concerning fair Canaan was made.
And it found its fulfillment in four hundred years,
When Joshua traversing theJordan appears.

And three hundred the years that the Judges appear!
And then of a king and a kingdom we hear!

Of David, who showed what a pebble could do!

And then when to B.C. 1000 they came,
The kingdom was ringing with Solomon's fame!
And the Temple he builded and then consecrated,
Ere his love for the god of his fathers' abated.

8

And three were the Kings ere the kingdoms two!
And two were the tribes that allegiance renew.
These kingdoms were Judah and Israel called,
And prophets approached them!  Appealed!  And appalled!

There were good kings!  And bad kings!  And kings who were hated!
An Elijah foretold!  An Elijah translated!
A queen in each kingdom who revelled in slaughter!
And wicked Athaliah was Jezebel's daughter!

And after Elijah by ravens was fed!
But ere dead Elisha had quickened the dead!
Of Jonah we learn!  Of his most wicked wish,
When he had gone in and gone out of the fish!

Of the gourd that went in and went out of his sight!
Each time in the very short space of a night!
Of how God reproved him at being annoyed,
At none of the Ninevites being destroyed!

And Israel's kingdom was first to expire,
Whilst Judah's revived under King Hezekiah!
And the years were two hundred and fity and four,
And nineteen the Kings who had broken God's law.
