Dear Sir
Yours of the 2nd (Inst) came to hand this day and was Glad to hear that there was a prospect for the bill to pass giving us a new County, and myself with many of my neighbors to whom I showed your letter feel ourselves under considerable obligations to you for your attention and the aid you have given to it, Now Sir I should presume that if the notice did not even remain up the whole time on the C House at Wythe it ought to make no material difference as it was Generally known through out the whole county of Wythe, and there is no Memorial from Wythe County opposing a Division, and I have conversed with several of the most respectable citizens at Wythe C. House who all said we situated as we were, was entitled to a County and that no person at the C House or in the County of Wythe would oppose the formation of the County, that they knew of, I shall write to Lynch Currin by the next mail. I was thinking that if Lynch would address a letter to you with the signature of several respectable Citizens at Wythe C. House saying that they seen the notice and they believed it was done in due & proper time it would be sufficient I should suppose as you know

yourself there is no opposition from the County of Wythe, which county gives us much the largest Portion of Teritory, I have been informed that Capt. J. P. Mathews the Clerk of the County has expressed himself favorable to it and says we are entitled to a new County as asked for and it would effect his interest more than any other man in the county. I did not converse with him myself. Dear Sir I hope you will Press it and give it your aid which I have no doubt you will and should it ever be in our Power to retaliate your friendship we will be always ready. I hope the two Mr. Chapmans will give their aid, Sir when ever convenient I shall be glad to hear from you, I hope you will be attentive before the Committee and state the Greevances we labor under the long distance to our C Houses New River in the way and frequently impassible and endeavor to get them to be satisfied with the notice as I am satisfied it has been properly done unless there has been some carlessness, for if any legal part required has been omitted it has been through carlessness and not design I remain with due respect your obdt servt

Transcriber Notes

Pulaski county resulted from this action.

John P. Mathews was Clerk of Wythe County.

In letter 893 written also by James Tiffany, Augustus Chapman was addressed. Henley Chapman was another Chapman in politics about this time and lived possibly in Giles or Pulaski County.
