When Isaac is rescued, whom Abraham brought;

When Isaac was older, he married Rebeccah,

As Isaac perceived not the skin of the goat,

 

 

 

 

Since Esau's was hairy!  Add Esau's his coat!

And Esau defrauded, was Esau enraged!

 

Jacob flees from the rage of Esau; he journeys and has a vision of a ladder.

And then was his brother to Laban engaged!

 

 

 

XXVIII

But ere there arriving, his calling to ply,

He dreamed of the ladder that led to the sky!

And then when he saw them! - the angels descend,

Jacob vows “Of all that thou will give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”

 

 

He knew that His God would his footsteps attend!

And then of his own, and his willing accord,

 

 

 

 

He promised a tenth of his wealth to the Lord.

And when he had cattle innumerable earned,

Jacob having served Laban 20 years, starts for Canaan.  Laban pursues him, but is pacified.

Believing this promise, he later returned.

And Laban pursuing!  His anger conveyed,

 

 

 

 

Till he dreamed of his God, and His wishes obeyed!

And later the angels to Jacob appear.

 

Jacob meets with angels at Mahanaim, and God at Peniel, where he receives his name “of Israel”.

And then of his brother approaching, we hear.

 

 

 

 

And then when his fears of this Esau appalled him,

The Almighty blessed him, and "Israel" called him.
