Dear Wythe,
I suppose "Job" never bore the awful visitations of Divine Providence with more Patience than I your long delay.  I flattered myself certainly of receiving a letter from you in Richmond but I have visited the office so much in the anticipation of receiving one that the PM have learned my name & look for me without asking.  You certainly can't appreciate the feelings of one thus situated, if so "sympathy" & generosity of feelings, more almost suggest the diction, & friendship pen the desire, but I"ll not condemn you too strong, least some unknown cause to me prevents you. But I hope you will answer this & give me the news in particular including the affairs at home & neighborhood & trip to Richmond
Give my respects to all especially Aunt Nancy.  Tell her to write
                                       Yours respectfully
                                       S. C. Gleaves
