H for Heather Homes at dawn,

 

When the eldest son they mourn!

 

On his pretty silken bed,

 

E’en the eldest prince is dead!

 

 

H for Hebrews’ Happy Hearts,

 

Since no son or mother parts!

 

All with them is well moreover,

 

Since the Hebrews kept Passover!

 

 

H for Hebrews Homeward bound!

 

H for Host of Pharaoh drowned!

 

H the Horror that they feel,

 

As the waters o’er them steal.

Upon learning to their sorrow

 

They must wander forty years,

 

Though fair Canaan now appears.

And thus when Jehoiachin came to the throne,

 

No mercy by Nebuchadnezzar was shown.

As they murder his sons, and they put out his eyes,
