The Gleaves Family Bible was published in 1793 and it is assumed that William Gleaves purchased it about 1795. It contains the Old Testament, the Apocrypha, the New Testament and the Book of Psalms as used by the Church of Scotland.
The only page in the Bible with handwriting on it lists the births of Gleaves slaves. Two other pages attached to the Bible list various family dates that Anna Gleaves Rich transcribed and typed.
Gleaves Rhodes of Hilton Head Island, S.C. currents owns the Bible. The Bible is in very fragile condition with some pages missing at the back of the book. The binding has separated from the spine but the cover is in tact.
