Notes:

  • The Benjamin Gleaves house and cemetery, located at the corner of present-day Old Hickory Blvd.and Central Pike, were destroyed in 1986.
  • Fran Nichols recalls the Ruth Gleaves hill being on this site which has now been bulldozed down.

“When I was a child this was one of the steepest hills in the neighborhood.  The school bus had to stop at the bottom of the hill and change into low gear in good weather.  If the weather was bad we went around the hill the long way.  It was called Ruth Gleaves hill. At that time Gleaves still lived there.  There are several Ruth Gleaves but the one the hill is named after is believed to be the widow of Ben Franklin Gleaves.  There was also a daughter named Ruth Gleaves.”

  • Information about this cemetery was sent to the Davidson County Cemetery Survey project by volunteer, Lori Sellers, November 18, 2003.  If you have any additional information about this cemetery, please contact us by clicking here.
