Gloria Ardelle Gleaves, the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Taylor) Miller, was born December 3, 1932 near Hancock, IA. She died April 14, 2017 at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, IA, at the age of 84 years,4 months, and 11 days.
Gloria graduated from Oakland High School with the class of 1951. On December 26, 1951, she was united in marriage to Eugene Gleaves in Hiawatha, KS. Three sons were born to this union: Mike, Jeff, and Terry. Gloria and Gene farmed before moving to town. Gloria lived at home until several weeks ago when she moved to Oakland Manor.
Gloria enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzes. She was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church, where she had served on the church council. She had been on the Eckles Memorial Library Board, the Nishna Heritage Museum Board, and the Election Board. Gloria had spent countless hour’s volunteering at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home and had enjoyed being in a bible study group.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Barbara Bird; and her brother Maurice "Buz" Miller.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 65 years Gene of Oakland, IA; her three sons: Mike Gleaves of Avoca, IA, Jeff Gleaves and wife Jean of Kelseyville, CA, and Terry Gleaves and wife Amy of Oakland, IA; her daughter-in-law Leslie Gleaves of Council Bluffs, IA; her sister Doris Eyler of Carson, IA; her brother Delford "Jeep" Miller and wife Ruth of Oakland, IA; her sister-in-law Hazel Miller of Hancock, IA; seven grandchildren: Dana, Megan, Daniel, Timothy and wife Samantha, Evan and wife Kassie, Alex, and Grace; two great grandchildren, Cash and Wyatt; and two recent additions to the family, Nessy and Ashton. Gloria is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
