GLEAVES, Major Donald Heavner died April 5, 2010.

GLEAVES--Major Donald Heavner, 89, United States Air Force Retired, on April 5th, 2010. Beloved husband of Jeanne-Marie and the late Lois. Father of Cynthia Pocali and Donald B. Gleaves. Grandfather of Juliet and Gregory Pocali, Bryant and Jeanine Gleaves. Step-grandfather of Jack Vecsey, great-grandfather of Brianne Gleaves. In WWII Major Gleaves fought in the battle of Okinawa and entered Japan the day after General MacArthur where was he was deployed for several years. He also served with the Strategic Air Command in Morocco and England. Upon retiring from the Air Force he ended his career as a consultant with Northrup Grumman. Services at Calverton National Cemetery on April 8 for family only. A celebration of his life to be announced. Contributions in his memory to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Avenue, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001. "Old soldiers never die."
