Dorothy Vernon (Dot) Gleaves of Wytheville passed away Monday October 11, 2004. Born to the late John Forrest and Annie Allison Vernon on November 7, 1924. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Lessia Ann Gleaves and a sister, Elizabeth V. Overstreet. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, James L. Gleaves, Jr.; children, James Lucian "Luke" Gleaves, IV and companion, Carla L. Berry, Lynn Gleaves Nelson, Eric Vernon Gleaves and daughter-in-law, Renee Flinchum Gleaves; grandchildren, Ashley and Jake Nelson, Aaron and Sam Gleaves, and Wes Lange; niece, JoAnn Overstreet Kaase, her husband, Robert, and son Christopher; and Mr. Gleaves brother-in-law, Barry F. Hawkins and his sons, Mike and Tim Hawkins. The family will receive visitors at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church Wednesday, October 13, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services commence at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the West End Cemetery Wytheville, Va., with the Rev. Thomas Sproule and the Rev. Brad Simpson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital, 332 N. Launderdale, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, or to the Wythe County Rescue Squad, 185 W. Spring St., Wytheville, Va. 24382. An unwavering love that created and sustains a family.
