Passed from this life on Friday, April 26, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Potter Gleaves and Julian Tovell Gleaves. Survived by his wife, Melissa Hertenstein Gleaves; sons, William Russell Gleaves Jr. and Harold Thomas Gleaves; foster son, Tim Lincon; sisters, Helen Gleaves Page and Mildred Gleaves Ligon both of Nashville; brother, Julian T. Gleaves of Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Melinda Bailey, Tom Gleaves, Russell Gleaves III all of Northville, New York, Matthew Gleaves, Nate Gleaves and Thad Gleaves of Rutherfordton, NC; great grandchildren, Mellissa Bailey, Noah Bailey, Jade Gleaves, Jesse Gleaves and Tripp Gleaves. Russell served as a Church of Christ Minister for many years, much of his ministry being done in Maine and New York State. Russell was a blessing to all who knew him and was dearly loved. Services to be conducted 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 29, 2002 in the Woodlawn Chapel of Roses by Don Finto and Steven Mansfield. Active Pallbearers will be Jim Davis, Jim Brown, Denny Murphey, Paul Phillips, Al Jaynes and Dr. Charles Rvark. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
