Margaret "Tee" Keenan
Margaret Rich Keenan died at her TidePointe home on Hilton Head on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at age ninety-three. The daughter of the late John and Anna Rich of Wytheville, VA, she is survived by her husband of 62 years, W. F. "Peter" Keenan, III, a son, John Keenan and his wife Beverly of Mendham, NJ, a son, Jim and his wife Maria of Daufuskie Island, SC, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Carrie Sydnor of Naples, FL and Bobbie Sampselle of Newport News, VA, a brother, John Rich and his wife Carol of Lebanon, PA, and a sister-in-law Eleanor Rich of Hilton Head Island, SC.
Mrs. Keenan was born in Bandy, WV and graduated from Concord College in Athens, WV. She met her husband when they both worked for Union Carbide in Charleston, WV. They also lived in New York City and Southold, NY. After her husband’s retirement they moved to Spanish Wells on Hilton Head Island in 1976 and lived there until their move to TidePointe in 1998.
Mrs. Keenan loved golf, sailing, bridge, bowling, dancing, and was also a passionate supporter of the Hilton Head Island community and its charities. She was a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce class on Community Leadership, charter President of the Council of Garden Clubs, past Chairman of the Council’s Arbor Day, past President of the Plantation Garden Club, past volunteer Manager of the Regional Medical Center Gift Shop, past Chairman of All Saints Episcopal Church Flower Guild, and member of the Herb Society.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints on Saturday, April 9 at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made to All Saints or the Auxiliary at the Regional Medical Center.
