Patrick Henry Esqr. Governor of The Commonwealth of Virginia, To all To Whom These presants shall [ ] greetings. [K]now ye That [ ] part of a certificate right of Settlement given by The Commissioners for adjusting the Titles To unappropriated lands in The district of Washington and Montgomery Counti[ es] and in consideration of The Ancient Compensation of one pound Ten Shillin[g] sterling paid by William Gleaves unto The Treasury of This Commomwealth There is granted by the Said Commonwealth unto the said Wil[ iliam] Gleaves a certain Tract or parcel of land containing Two hundred and ninety five acres by Survey bearing date The (blotted out) Twelfth day of [ ] one Thousand [ ] seven hundred a [ ] w [ ] )crease in paper and is torn) County of Mon[ tgo ]mery on the waters of Cripple Creek a branch of New River and [b]ounded as Followeth, To wit Beginning at three poplar Trees from one Root North sixty four degrees East sixty eight poles to a whiteoak Tree South fifty nine degrees east Seventy poles to a bla[ck] oak Tree South forty seven degrees West one hundred and Twenty [ ] poles to Three chestnuts Trees West one hundred and Thirty eight poles to five whiteoak trees South Sixty degrees West Forty four poles To a hickory and whiteoak sapling South fifty six poles to a large whiteoak Tree South Thirty two degrees West Seventy Six poles to Two whiteoak Saplings North eighty degrees West one hundred and eight poles to a whiteoak Sapling South fifty six degrees West forty four poles to a double whiteoak Sapling North sixty four degrees West one hundred and forty poles Crossing a Branch To a white oak sapling in a hollow North Seventy degrees ea[ ] fifty six To a whiteoak Tree North thirty five degrees East Twenty eight poles to a cherry tree [ ] degrees East Thirty four poles crossing The Branch to two whiteoak Trees and North Seventy one de[ ] East Three hundred and Seventy four poles To The beginning with [ ] appertenances To have and To hold The said Tract or parcel of land with appertenances To The Said William Gleaves and his heirs forever, [ ] date this eighteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and eighty five
