THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA

To William Gleaves Gent. Greetings:

Know you ____ from the Special Trust and Confidence which is reposed in your
Fidelity, Courage, Activity and good Conduct, our Lieutenant Governor (our
Governor being absent) upon the Recommendation of the
Court of Wythe County doth Appoint you the said
William Gleaves, Lieutenant in the
Militia of the said County of Wythe to take Rank as such from the
(blank) Day of May 1790 In testimony whereof
these our Letters are sealed with the Seal of the Commonwealth and made Patent. Wit-
ness the Honourable James Wood Esquire, our
said Lieutenant Governor, at Richmond, this Eleveneth
Day of September 1790
