Richmond Febr. 11th 1837

Dear Sir, Yours of the 25th of last month has come to hand. I should have been very much pleased, if any opportunity had offered to transmit the Pills for Miss Crockett, but as soon as any thing can be done in this matter, I shall not neglect to embrace the chance. You know yourself that such things can not be sent by mail, it being contrary to the Post Office laws.

With respect to our legislative proceedings it is not necessary for me to give you any account, for you read the Enquirer, which acquaints you sufficiently of our slow progress. There never was more business introduced into the Legislature to be acted upon, then is now laid on our table, I believe this will be the longest session that ever occurred.

You mention in your letter, that I should procure a Bill for a precinct election at John F. Straws: This can not be done during the present session, for it requires two months public notice previous to the meeting of the Legislature, besides the Petition.

How do you come on electioneering? You dont say any thing in your letter about it; It is supposed among our friends, that Sanders will probably stand aloof, and that you will have to contend with some other popular Whigg. For my part I do not wish to stand in your way, if you can in any way succeed, nor can I do much for you before the Election, as I am convinced, the Legislature will not rise before the last week in March. The Van Buren party are very anxious, that no Whig should be sent as my successor. May full success attend you
I am with great respect
Your friend
John Stanger
