Transcriber Notes

Elizabeth Turk Gleaves was the wife of William Benjamin Gleaves.  She was born February 17, 1753 and died July 15, 1840 at 87 Years, 4 Months, 28 Days old.

Elizabeth had a previous will that she signed on September 15, 1820.

Elizabeth lists her children as
Margaret Turk (died 9-14-1855)
Thomas Gleaves (died 3-26-1849)
Absalom Gleaves (died 9-18-1834)
Elizabeth Ramsey (died unknown)
Esther Finley  (died 3-01-1839)
James T. Gleaves (died 6-05-1862)
Sally Allen  (died 3-11-1862)
Nancy Gleaves (died 5-16-1855)

Elizabeth does not mention these children:
Matthew Gleaves (died 10-08-1804)
Polly Porter (died 11-11-1832)
William Gleaves Jr (died 4-17-1811)

Since Polly Porter died in 1832 and Absalom died in 1834, the date this document was written is estimated to be about 1833.

It is interesting to note that Elizabeth left $1 to her dead daughter’s husband.

Elizabeth lists two slaves in her will:
Lett who is to stay in the family
Maria who is to be sold
