State of Tennessee        Dty        July 20th 1834

Dear Brother In answer to your last which found me and my family well and are well at this time what few there is of us. My white family is only three in number. My son Guigh T. (Guy T.) Gleaves lives in South Allabama. He is employed to keep a confectionary for a gentleman by the name of Goock. It is uncertain when he will return. His health is not good. I am afrade he has this brect complaint growing on him. I hope this will find you all well when this come to hand. I have nothing of importance to rite you at this time. Your relations are all well as far as I now at this time. You rote me in your last whether Mr. Browns money could be maid out of Jacob Harkredor or not . It is very doubtful whether it could or not. He is in a very tottering situation at this time. If Mr. Brown or any other person will send out the hafers to me I will do everything in my power to secure the money for them. We have had fine season this summer. Crops are very good. Wheat is very fine. Rye and Oats excelent. Corn as likly as ever I saw it in my life. Cottain (cotton) very fine. We have had bad accounts some time back from Virginia saying you have had a severe drought in parts of that state. The south part of this state has suffered very much with a drought this season and part of Allabama state. Jacob Harkreader has had a letter from the State of Indiana from James Halsey saying that Joseph Belshey is going in to the State of Virginia this fall for the purpose of trying to break his mothers will. I wish you to try and secure my money out of him when he comes. The balance of the judgment that I obtaind against him in that county which is in the clerks office you had better take the advice of a lawyer to have to proceed against him. I enclose a note in this letter I hold on him for five dollars

which I wish you to have collected from his as quick as he lands and then proceed with the other against him as the law directs. If he wishes to pay the demands I hold against him in a horse you can take a horse under eight years old and then sell him for cash in hand or at twelve month credit. If I am spared in life and in good health I will come in next fall and my son James T Gleaves to see you all once more. Nothing more at present but remains your with esteme. We join and cend our best well wishes to you all.
