Because James T. Gleaves had bought the land in the Randolph Rutherford estate as well as serving as the executor or the state, the Superior Court of Chancery had to hear the case and appoint a commissioner to convey the title to the land. Also as no heirs of the estate were present to receive the estate money, the commissioner had to collect to money to distribute it to the heirs. These were the costs to cover these actions.
