My dear Dr
I received your letter some time ago, and would have answered it sooner, but I have been endeavoring to procure you a suitable preavation But I am fearful I'll not be able to do so-
There are some very fine ones in the University, but none that you would be pleased with. I expect to commence dissecting next week again, and hope that I may still be able to obtain one, that can be recommended by Dr. Horner or Dr Neil his Demonstrator
I am getting along with my studies very well, indeed, much better than I anticipated. I find that it keeps me busy to keep up with my lectures and do them justice
I am becoming rather tired of Philadelphia she doesn't present as many charms-as I expected, at least those that once pleased my fancy have departed, I have nothing new to amuse me except the fine & good wit of old Dr. Chapman - which as you know is a rich treas. We have about 400 students I don't know how many will graduate in
[ ] Jefferson has better than 500 I [understand ] but if they resort to the means I hear [ y] do viz have men stationed through out the city at the wharf, railroad depot, ready-to persuade & take strange students, they should not have any= (I don't know if this is the truth) Dr Gibson gives it to others - concerning their operations & manner of doing
Hormshell is well and by the bye a very clever fellow-
I truly appreciate your kindness in writing to Mr. Brown, and if I come home in the spring- I'll avail myself of the advantage, as I expect my purse will be pretty light by that time
Believe me to be your friend
With the highest respect

(PS) Dr I wish you would ask CA Boring if he intends answering my letter
