                                                                        Philadelphia
                                                                        April 10th
Dear Aunt,

I have been looking over the City to find a dress cap to suit my fancy.  Whether I have succeeded in pleasing you, I have still to learn.
The cap I sent is one of the most handsome & fashionable in the City.  My landlady complimented me highly for my taste.  They are called the "Cottage Cap"   I could find some more gaudy but the one I sent I consider neither plain or gaudy-medium.  As it respects those shawls neither Mr. Guggenheimer or I could find any to suit.  They bring winter goods-it is with difficulty you can find this season  I sent three dress hats one for Mother, Aunt Caroline & Nancy.  They can select for themselves.  The small you can have if you want it if not give it to Martha Danner.  The vest pattern I intend for Wythe.   The two dogs I intend for Sam & Jackson & when Sam becomes tired of his I want Uncle Allen to have it for an inkstand.  As he writes a great deal.  Dispose of the other likewise to Father, if not to James & Robert

I hope that you have received your braid before this  write when you received this & let me know how the braid & cap suits.
My landlady being anxious to send something & under this impression I had a Sister make today the wreath I send as its colors will show is intended for young ladies-I wish Mary was large enough-It is to be worn on the back of the head somewhere-I believe-you can dispose of it as you please-as you see it will not suit my sisters  Who will you give it to?

Miss May Stuart was very attentive to me when I was sick in Town, would she except it?  There is Eliza Walker - - Though do as you please.  But let me know of the disposed in your letter.  If you want anything made let me know.
If you can't catch a beau now it's not your nephew fault
                                                           Yours &C
