Transcriber Notes

This ledger was found in the Gleaves papers but does not appear to have been kept by a Gleaves Family member.

References are to Greeneville, Jonesboro, Dandridge, Bristol which are all in north eastern Tennessee.

Several references are made to James Bitton in partnership with a Hawkins.

Fees paid in Chancery and Circuit Courts are recorded here but no dates are indicated.  Also many entries seem to have been made from the back to the front based on dates entered, especially those during 1864-1865 during the Civil War.

There is a reference to Wytheville in one entry and somehow this ledger must have come into the hands of Robert Harvey Gleaves.
