Dear Family,                                                             Tuesday, Nov. 1, 1966

I received check from Tee for which I thank her.

I received check from John for which I thank him.

My visit to Newport News was perfect and I enjoyed every hour of it! Golden sunshine every hour of every day.  Maple leaves in yellow, dogwood leaves indark red & roads perfectly level everywhere.

We drove Anna Bob’s Plymouth many days & Jim's Mercedes many days. Played duplicate bridge 3 times against astute players, won twice & doubled my opponents scores both times, was invited to 2 luncheons & 1 dinner. Anna Bob had my diamond solitaire cleaned, my glasses tightened & helped me purchase a warm dress, rose wool, and shift, trimmed with rose buttons, that was much complimented.  Had safe trip home. Rode in wheel chair, through dark airport both ways.  When I started to tip porter who pushed me, he said  “Put your money away, I am not allowed to accept tips, United Air Lines pays me to do this”.

Saw Wm & Mary. Alice is now In new dormitory. Large bedroom, every convenience, a bathroom for 4 "suitemates”. Alice showed me many’ lovely dresses in unusual colors & beautifully tailored that her mother had made her. She must be the best dressed girl there. Mary & Lynn went to 2 parties Saturday night, Mary had friend, Mary Cotton 16 years old. Her boy friend 19 years old had graduated  from High School & is entering the Army .He gave her a going away present. A sweater, skirt to match & silver pin to wear with it. She opened all the packages at the party. All were admired & the event of the party. How times have changed in 70 years! In my girlhood, only 3 gifts were permitted from a young man to a girl. Candy, flowers & books.

Anna Bob always does 3 kinds of work at once. Puts the laundry in the washer & it twirls in the Utility Room, cooks chicken 2 hours with sherry, mushrooms, mushroom soup & sour cream. And it is delicious. And irons her cut work embroidered tablecloth. For the 3rd thing, she will drive to Massanetta Tuesday to attend 2 day church meeting. She mailed out 130 letters one night. Church secretary typed them & addressed the envelopes.  Anna Bob put letters in envelopes, stamped letters & mailed them that night.

                                                                        Love to all, Nana Rich
