And Joash was murdered!  Ay!  Murdered in bed,

 

 by his son, Amaziah.

 

 

And bad Amaziah made king in his stead.

And this Amaziah the Israelites hired,

When God had reproved him he put him afar.

Amaziah conquers Edom,

Midst captives and riches, their idols he bore!

 

and brings back with him

 

 

Those idols he worshipped!  Those idols he cherished!

 

their idols to be his gods.

 

 

And through that vile worship, their worshipper perished!

He’d have carried his point, though the eighty had  scourged him!

Then a leper was he, and his fate was bemoaned,

This son was the Jotham, whose precepts were ample,

His son, Hezekiah, revived the Lord’s cause,

 

Passover.

 

 

And kept the Passover, and followed the laws!

He wrote to the ten tribes as well as the two,

And said God may take off his anger from you!

 

tribes to keep the feast of the

 

 

But the “ten tribes” they mocked him!  They laughed him to scorn!

And after their laughter, we hear of his tears!

Of his life being spared, and the number of years!

 

of Hezekiah, he grows proud,

Of the riches and jewels he vainly displayed,

 

and displays his wealth.

 

 

Of the prophecy true, that so truly dismayed!
