June the 13th 1838

Dear father I received your letter on the 13ints you spoke of of my Diet it is much better than it was when I first came here we get butter and bread and coffee and sometimes meat but very seldom for Diner we get bacon and some pork for supper we get bread and milk and that is good enough for any person you spoke something about the fever there had been 4 of 5 cases and one deaths I am sorry to relate to you that we have lost one of our students Mir Macfadrige of smithe he Died the 5the of this month I neve saw a Christian Died before him he was redy to go before he died he called the students to the bed side and hug them and kised them and told them that they must be prepared to go with him he also called his father and mother his bed side and huged them and kise them and told them and told them that he was going to heaven and told his mother that when she died she would go to heaven and called for a hym Book one was given to him but he could not read and thus he died away he was buried at home at sulpur Springs I don't know when his furnel will but be preached but I reckon at home though I rather expect mr Collins will preach it & Father you wanted to no what our labeour was it is cheifly cuting rail timber keeping brush howing corn and thining we go to work half past 2 O clock and work till half past 5 then we come in and by that time

our super is ready we eat our suppers and at 6 O clock we have prayers and school till 9 O clock then we go to bed and then we get up at 5 o clock and wash then prayes then chool till 7 then we eat our breakfast an we have one hours recesp I get 5 cts an hour for my labour all over fourteen gets as much as growing ones I worke ever day I can thout it is raining I want to affor as much of my boarding as I can they charg a Dollor a week and if it don't rain I can make my goal a week like 10 cts of paying for my board a week they wont let none of the students have any more than 5 Pieces a week wash if any more than five pieces thay must pay for it one pair socks is counted one piece

Father them that has got the fever is getting well very fast Mrs Hains from Tennesses I thought he wold haved Died but he is getting to go about a gain and I think I proper meas is don ther will be no sicknys I alow to thake good good care of my self if should get sick I wount no what to doe but and trust to god that I wont be sick

Father mr Ganaway requested of me to wite to you if could get 2 or 3 Cows if you think he cant not get them wite to me in the next letter if you plese on the subgeet as it is such important one he says that if he can get them he will send after them Besure to write to me as soon as you get this letter Wythe I want you to wite to me

Mother I cant not wite to father without wirting to you I am going to try to learn as much as can I want to come home and show them crippe Creek chaps what a College bred gentleman is and mother I want you to wite me diret by you get this letter Tell James and Robert that I will be home before long & Grand mother I am well at this time and I hope that these few lines will find you well a can be expected
