Transcriber Notes

Wythe County neighbors Randolph Rutherford and James T. Gleaves signed a promissory note for $11.50 (approximately $264.35 in 2007 dollars). Docketing on the cover indicates that the debt had not been paid and that Fisher had brought suit against them to recover this debt.

Promissory notes were used as currency and were often assigned to a creditor to pay a debt.
