Though Esau, with Jacob in anger had parted,

 

Esau receives Jacob with affection.  Esau departs for Edom, and Jacob resides in Canaan.

Jacob had served Laban 7 yrs for Rachel, and being given Leah had served 7 more for Rachel.

This proof of his death to their father, they bring,

The cup is found in Benjamin’s sack.

The cup is discovered with dear little Ben,

 

 

 

 

And Joseph informs them that Benny must stay

 

They are brought before Joseph.

 

 

But, Hark ye!  What Judah, the elder, doth say--

He tells of the father so aged and sad!

 

Judah’s humble supplication unto Joseph in behalf of his brother Benjamin.

 

XLIV

How dearly he loveth his dear little lad!

That already he mourneth a favorite son,

 

 

 

 

And Ben is his youngest, his motherless one.

And Judah determined his brother to save,

 

Judah promises to be the slave of Joseph in the place of Benjamin.

Replies unto Joseph that he'll be his slave.

 

 

 

 

And yet he had proven relentless and cold,

 

 

 

 

When another, a brother, was earlier sold.

Joseph maketh himself known to his brothers, and engages them to come to Egypt with their father.
