Lucinda was killed in Aug of 1864 (as told by family members). She was shot by someone on horseback who was shooting at TB. Apparently she was holding her infant boy and the shots killed her and the child. It is unknown at this time where she is buried. Possibly Tennessee, Kentucky or Illinois. Thomas left the boys with relatives in Tennessee and followed Lucinda's killer to the panhandle of OK and had him hanged. |

TB surely heard OK was opening up land for settlement and arrived in OK around October of 1889. TB and Nancy lived close to the Canadian River near McLoud, OK. Their son Arthur went to school at McLoud around 1895 to 1900. In 1892 TB drew for a Lottery ticket for land that was opening up in OK. He wasn't lucky enough. TB and Nancy lived in a small house that had a big attic where all the kids slept. One night a tornado came through and TB got the kids up and downstairs just as the roof blew off of the house. TB and Nancy packed up and left there soon afterwards and headed further west. Story from Lillie Mae Orr. |

Sometime after their youngest son, Andy, was grown (about age 25), he needed money to go to California. So TB mortgaged his farm for $300. TB and Nancy went to California with Andy but did not stay long, returning to Elk City. Andy never repaid the money and TB lost the farm. With no money and no place to live, TB and Nancy finally moved in with their daughter, Minnie, who had an extra room |
